Scrubbing In The New

by Jess Weiner, founder and chief creative officer for Talk to Jess & Global Ambassador for the Dove Self-Esteem Fund

Without a doubt, one of my favorite parts of fall is watching the leaves change into beautiful hues of bronze and gold. To me, this magical, cyclical transformation is an annual reminder of life’s fragility and the need for endurance and restoration in order to renew. But I know what you are thinking….who has the time, right? Well it’s up to us as busy, inspired women to create that time. Let today be the day you choose to put your needs on the top of your To-Do list!

Sometimes I care so much about my work helping others to live their best lives that I forget to live my own life. As a small business owner and entrepreneur I can tend to overwork, underplay and not get enough sleep. So I’ve been thinking about how I can create a little time off to reflect, restore and renew. I’m going to take advantage of a long weekend coming up where my house is empty of man and kid – and I’m turning my bathroom into my own personal spa! Follow me on this!

My friend Gabrielle gave me a great recipe for a brown sugar body scrub made with honey and apricot oil (recipe below). I’ll be turning my bathroom into a mini oasis: candles, soft music and bubble bath aahhh—I’m already there! These moments don’t have to be elaborate, but do try to make them intentional. I usually write out two or three things I’d like to release while I’m relaxing—maybe it’s stress from work or a worry about a family member—and then two or three things I’d like to invite in: more support or more moments like this!

So…what will you do to renew and relax? Write it down and make a commitment to yourself. You can even start tonight with this body scrub! Enjoy!

Body Scrub Recipe

• 1 cup brown sugar

• 1 tablespoons apricot kernel oil

• 6 drops of essential oil of your choice (I like vanilla)

• 1 tablespoon honey

Mix it all together, scrub your body, rinse and feel how nice and soft your new skin feels!
