Women and Mentoring: LinkedIn Study

by Nicole Williams for LinkedIn

It may not surprise you, but LinkedIn’s latest study found (in a survey of nearly 1,000 female professionals in the U.S.) that 82 percent of women agree that having a mentor is important. But what will knock your socks off is that considering the competitive employment landscape, and the universal belief that mentorship is a critical component to career success, 19 percent (that’s nearly one out of every five women) have NEVER had a mentor.

The survey results were unveiled during the Pennsylvania Conference for Women, the largest women’s conference in the state. LinkedIn is the conference’s exclusive connection sponsor and LinkedIn’s Connection Director, Nicole Williams, spoke at the event.

Operation Homefront Donation Drive

We are proud to partner for the second time this year with Operation Homefront of Pennsylvania and Delaware, a non-profit organization that provides emergency financial and resource assistance to families of military service members in the region. This organization helps more than 60 families a year with emergency financial assistance and have morale programs that help an additional 1,000-2,000 service members.

We invite our attendees to make a monetary donation or donate a gift card to a major retailer (such as Target or Walmart), gas station or grocery store. Gift cards are often used by military families in need to purchase necessary food items, baby items, or gas to drive to doctor or rehabilitation appointments. They are especially useful during the holiday season.

Find Your Own Sense of Renewal

by Gretchen Rubin

To foster a sense of renewal, I’ve realized, it’s important to cultivate a sense of enthusiasm. I want to look forward to the future with anticipation, to get energy from the things I do—to have fun.

One of my Secrets of Adulthood is “What’s fun for other people may not be fun for me—and vice versa.” This sounds simple, but it actually was a huge breakthrough for me. So many things that other people consider “fun” are not fun for me, and it took me an astonishingly long time to realize that. Drinking alcohol, shopping, crossword puzzles…I just don’t enjoy those “fun” activities. Read More

by Lena West

Sometimes it’s hard to make big shifts in our businesses – even though those same changes may be well overdue and very, very necessary. Change is not always easy.
