Betty Long

As a registered nurse working in greater Philadelphia-area hospitals for the past 25 years, Betty Long‘s experiences as a nurse and manager proved to her that maneuvering through today’s healthcare system can be daunting, especially when you don’t have someone to help you navigate the system. These factors and many others, compelled Long to launch Guardian Nurses Healthcare Advocates in October 2003. Guardian Nurses provides advocacy services for clients, both corporate and private, all over the United States. Long, who serves as Guardian Nurses’ president, began her career in 1986 as a critical care nurse. Nationally, Long’s advocacy work has been featured on “The Doctor Oz Show’ and National Public Radio’s “Marketplace and Marketplace Money” shows. Guardian Nurses’ success has also been featured in the New York Times, the Sunday Philadelphia Inquirer, the Philadelphia Business Journal, the Chicago Tribune, the Boston Globe and the New England Healthcare Journal. Long was personally honored by TAG Heuer North America and Glamour Magazine with the “What Are You Made Of” award at Glamour’s Women of the Year Gala. She is also a content expert on Sharecare.com, an interactive social Q&A platform for healthcare founded by Dr.Oz as well as a contributing editor for Employee Benefit News. She is on the advisory board of the Professional Patient Advocacy Institute.
