Work Where You Win

By Ande Frazier, Head of Vision and Brand, myWorth

The traditional 9-to-5 just doesn’t work for a lot of people anymore, myself included. As a mother of two, the head of vision and brand at a startup, a speaker, writer and author, it’s nearly impossible for me to be sitting in an office all day. With traveling for work and getting my kids to wherever they need to go, I have to be able to work whenever, wherever. And I know I’m not the only one. Where we work, how we work and when we work is evolving, so we need to figure out how to make it work for us. Read More

You wouldn’t say that catching up on the news or looking at funny pet videos is more important than your family or other people you love. But that is basically what you are doing by constantly checking your phone.

Science journalist Catherine Price had this revelation three years ago while holding her baby in the middle of the night. “The room was pitch black except for the light from my phone,” recalls Price, author of How to Break Up with Your Phone: The 30-Day Plan to Take Back Your Life. “I looked away from my phone to my daughter, and realized she’d been looking at me the whole time. That wasn’t what I wanted her first impression of a human relationship—or her mother—to be.” Read More

Three Real Ways to Manage Work Stress (from Someone Who Almost Died from It)

Seven years ago, Nathalie Molina Niño was living the dream. At least she was to outward appearances. Having sold her first start-up in her 20s, she, now an “intrepreneur,” was on her fourth venture with a corporation, a $100 million business that was building the biggest private “crowd.”

Strive for This Instead of Work-Life Balance

A self-professed “truth-bomber,” Anne Grady is all about getting real and talking about things that no one wants to talk about.

Here is one thing the leadership development expert wants everyone to know: Work-life balance is a mirage.

Or as she puts it: “Balance is bullsh*t.”

“It doesn’t really exist,” says Grady, author of 52 Strategies for Life, Love and Work. “Or if it does, it’s only temporary and fleeting. Stuff happens. Your job, family, friends, health—they can’t all stay in perfect alignment all the time.” Read More

Though many of her high school teammates were new to the sport, Lewis, who had played the game for years, inspired and led the team to its first tournament championship. She wrote about her experience for a competition co-sponsored by the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), winning her one of three coveted spots in a “Basketball Without Borders” community service trip to South Africa.
