Dr. Lori Gavrin

LORI GAVRIN has 15 years’ experience as a Ph.D. organic chemist working in the field of drug discovery and development. As a member of GlaxoSmithKline’s highly selective R&D Esprit Leadership Development Program, she is working in the maternal and neonatal health unit in partnership with Save the Children to reduce the tragically high newborn mortality rate in the developing world by increasing access of lifesaving medicines to mothers and newborns. Previous to her current role, Dr. Gavrin has led R&D efforts in cystic fibrosis, diabetes, arthritis and women’s health.  She has more than a dozen publications and is a named inventor on 11 patents.  A passionate supporter of the research being done in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry, Dr. Gavrin recently chaired the world’s premier medicinal chemistry conference, the Gordon Research Conference, and has delivered numerous talks on the drug discovery and development process around the world to graduate students, professors, fellow industry members, and high school teachers.  Dr. Gavrin earned a B.S. at Colgate University and her Ph.D. in organic chemistry at University of Pennsylvania.  @gsk
